Government of Canada and Government of Quebec to Make Multi-Million-Dollar Investments in the Emerging Technologies Sector

On Monday, October 23, 2023, federal and Quebec ministers will unveil major investments in quantum communication technology at an event in Montreal. A new quantum test platform will be launched to help enterprises and institutions experiment with quantum-secured telecom networks.

Media representatives are cordially invited to a press briefing where significant investments in the cutting-edge technology sector , the Minister of Tourism and the Minister overseeing Government of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), alongside Pierre Fitzgibbon, the Quebec Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy. He also holds responsibilities for Regional Economic Development and for the Metropolis and the Montréal Region.

The focal point of this announcement will be the inauguration of a quantum communication test platform. This platform will empower enterprises and institutions to delve into and experiment with quantum tech-driven systems and applications tailored for telecommunication networks. Sherbrooke will witness the test bed’s initiation in October 2023, with Montréal and Québec City following suit in early 2024. The primary objective of this initiative is to bolster the security of communication networks, especially in light of the rapid advancements in quantum computing.
