The SBCV is pleased to announce the launch of the 2024 SBCV Feline and Canine Dental Wet Labs.

The Saturday wet lab is totally devoted to felines, and is one price for the entire day. The Sunday wet labs are two separate canine wet labs: you may purchase one or both.

Level One Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog (4 CE hours – this is a half-day wet lab)

Level Two Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog (4 CE hours – this is a half-day wet lab)

PLEASE NOTE: Level One Canine Dental Wet Lab is for beginners or those wanting extra practice time. Level One or its equivalent is a prerequisite for the afternoon’s Level Two Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog. Level Two Canine Dental Wet Lab is for those with advanced skills and confidence. If you are unsure if you can take Level Two without Level One, please call Lily at 604.283.6220.

All wet labs are led by instructors Candace Lowe, DVM, MVetSc, DAVDC, Susan McTaggart, DVM, FAVD, and Olivia Saunders, BVM&S, MRCVS, AVDC (Resident).

All wet labs are generously sponsored by Serona Animal Health.

Venue

Hilton Vancouver Metrotown 6083 McKay Avenue, Burnaby, BC V5H 2W7. All Wet Labs are being held in the Baccarat (second floor) of the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown. Pay parking is available in the hotel parking lot. For those who will be using transit, depart from Metrotown Station, walk straight up Central Boulevard, and turn right on McKay Avenue to get to the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.

Cost

Cost of the all-day 7-hour Feline Wet Lab is $4,000 for non-SBCV members. SBCV members, as a benefit of membership, enjoy a 50 % discount and can attend the dental wet lab for $2,000. Coffee, tea, and lunch are provided in the cost of this ticket. Only veterinarians may attend. Due to the rising costs of cadavers, venue, and related costs, it was necessary for the SBCV to raise the costs of these Dental Wet Labs. Please see individual tickets to ensure that you are purchasing the correct wet lab. Once purchased, these tickets are non-refundable.

Cost of each Canine Wet Lab is $2,000 for non-SBCV members. SBCV members, as a benefit of membership, enjoy a 50 % discount and can attend the dental wet labs for $1,000 per wet lab. There is no requirement to take both wet labs. Veterinarians may sign-up for one or both wet labs. Only veterinarians may attend. Due to the rising costs of cadavers, venue, and related costs, it was necessary for the SBCV to raise the costs of these Dental Wet Labs. Please see individual tickets to ensure that you are purchasing the correct wet lab. Once purchased, these tickets are non-refundable. Coffee, tea, and a light snack will be provided, however there are no meals included in the cost of the ticket.

W et Lab Descriptions

Feline Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Cat (7 CE hours – this is an all-day wet lab)

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Each participant will receive their own cadaver specimen to work on and may work at their own speed and level.

Lecture 3.5 hours

• Oral Exam

• Cat Radiographic Interpretation

• Extraction Instruments

• Dental Blocks

Wet Lab 3.5 hours

Learning Objectives:

1. Plan extractions and choose instruments based on tooth shape, age of animal, and tooth location in jaw.

2. Practice the creation of successful mucoperiosteal flaps and caudal cheek teeth, including periosteal releasing incision technique.

3. Section different multi-rooted teeth and choose the appropriate instruments and burs to facilitate surgical extractions.

Level One Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog (4 CE hours – this is a half-day wet lab)

Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and will run from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Each participant will have their own cadaver specimen to work on.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify and use appropriate surgical instruments and burs to facilitate extractions.

2. Create mucoperiosteal flaps and practice releasing tension.

3. Section a multi-rooted tooth and use luxators and burs to facilitate surgical extractions.

There will be a short lecture at the beginning of the lab covering choice and use of extraction instruments and dental blocks in the dog.

PLEASE NOTE: Level One Canine Dental Wet Lab is for beginners or those wanting extra practice time. Level One or its equivalent is a prerequisite for the afternoon’s Level Two. Level Two Canine Dental Wet Lab is for those with advanced skills and confidence.

Level Two Canine Dental Wet Lab: Extractions in the Dog (4 CE hours – this is a half-day wet lab)

Registration opens at 12:30 p.m. and will run from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Each participant will have their own cadaver specimen to work on.

Learning objectives:

1. Plan extractions and choose instruments based on tooth shape, age of animal, and tooth location in the jaw.

2. Create mucoperiosteal flaps and caudal cheek teeth, including periosteal-releasing incision technique.

3. Section different multi-rooted teeth and choose appropriate instruments and burs to facilitate their extraction; includes discussion on retrieval of root tips.

There will be a short lecture at the beginning of the lab covering extraction techniques in difficult cases including

• Brachycephalics

• Small dogs

• Management of ankylosis

• Extraction of mandibular canine teeth
